What a fun movie! Captain America: Civil War isn’t a masterpiece. It doesn’t raise the stakes like Winter Soldier, but what it does well is remind all of us that the comic book movie genre is here to stay. Yes, the comparisons to Batman v Superman will happen. I’ll let those debates play out over the various forms of social media. Civil War was to add a reviewing cliché ‘a rollercoaster ride from the beginning to the end”. Relationships, have very emotional layers added to them. Characters are put in very believable peril. Of course this is a Disney film, it is all neatly tied up in a bow before it ends. That olive branch SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER is there and is going to be cashed in. Soon, come Infinity War.
There really isn’t a thing to complain about in this movie. All the actors played their parts well. Although the two standouts have to be newcombers Chadwick Boseman and Tom Holland. They tore up the screen as The Black Panther and Spiderman. Each character has this layer of depth to them that really grabs you. With all this being said, Sony has a hit on their hands with Spiderman. Fox has a goldmine on their hands with X-Men and Deadpool. Now, if Warner Bros can tighten things a bit (860 million is pretty awesome, you know what is better than that…. what they should have pulled – 1 billion) and Fox can tame the Fantastic 4, life in Comic Book Movie Land will be perfect.
Captain America: Civil War sits with me as a 4.2 out of 5. Such an awesome film. It’s only knock, is that I know the slate. Thus, I know what is coming next. Thanos is going to kick some ACE!!!
