I walked out of Pan impressed with the 3D. The film was a fantastic journey from beginning to end with Hugh Jackman as Blackbear; Levi Miller as Peter; Garrett Hedlund as Hook, and the fantastic actress Rooney Mara as Tiger Lily. This film came from the mind of Jason Fuchs who joined the folks at Schmoes Know (who I write for) and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this film. I went into it with zero expectations. I brought my mother in-law and her god-son to it. That little boy (who is around 8) didn’t move from his seat the entire time the film was running. To get a child’s attention for five minutes is a miracle and I’m so glad I got to see this movie.
Is this film perfect? NO, not at all but as a family film I enjoyed it thoroughly. I can’t stress it enough that getting children to stay still is 90 percent of the battle of these films and Pan does that fantastically.
What the director Joe Wright did with the 3D and the practical and CG effects was to me so impressive. I love when colors pop off the screen. I love walking into a film and being lost in my own imagination and with Pan I got to be a kid for 111 minutes.
I give Pan 3 out of 5 on my super nerd scale. My only knock is Garret Hedlund who doesn’t seem like Hook to me. He doesn’t seem to convey emotion well at least in this film. When it comes down to it Pan is worth the entrée I encourage you to see this film.
